Our Environments

“Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and carers”(EYFS 2017)

Our setting offers an environment where children can access a range of experiences. The play space is open and arranged to offer all of our children the best opportunity to make their own choices about their learning styles and preferences.

We have access to our own outdoor play area where children are offered the opportunity to play with water, sand and mud. We find the children’s learning is less categorised when outdoors, the children can transport, mix and explore materials with fewer restrictions. We are very fortunate to have access to the school grounds too. The field and orchard offer chance for the children to discover and investigate the changes in our environment, watching the leaves change colour in the autumn, the lambs appearing in the field in the spring and frosty spider webs in the hedgerows in the winter. The large playground promotes space to run in open spaces, steer bikes and play hopscotch. Additionally the children challenge their physical skills and take risks using the adventure playground where they climb, crawl and balance.

Practitioners at Pippins are highly qualified and passionate about their role in the early years. We work closely with our families, children and each other to ensure we are in tune with all of the children’s developmental needs. Carefully planned learning opportunities and activities are organised to develop the children’s next steps. The children’s learning journeys are updated every half term using Tapestry which is our online journal system.
